KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 16.16 g, 12 h), Amisos or Sinope, circa 97/6. Diademed head of Mithradates VI to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - MIΘPAΔATOY / EYΠATOPOΣ Pegasos grazing left; to left, star-in-crescent (Pontic royal badge); to right, monogram; all within Dionysiac wreath of ivy and fruit. Callataÿ - (D14/R-, unlisted reverse die). SNG Fitzwilliam 4054. SNG Paris 785-6 (same obverse die). Attractively toned and with an excellent portrait. Minor traces of corrosion and with a few light marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
